In 2015, the UN established the Agenda 2030, composed of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as a quality education (#4), reduced inequalities (#10), sustainable cities and communities (#11); responsible consumption and production (#12) and etc.
As part of its partnership with the UN, Junior Chamber International (JCI) created the United Nations Youth Ambassadors (UNYAP) program with the objective to bring the youngsters closer to the UN SDGs agenda, empower and share skills for their future sustainability projects – all together with their peers coming to Geneva from Japan for culture exchange.
JCI Japan has been doing the project for several years now and is coming with a delegation of 30 pupils for collaboration with the Swiss delegation on the 17 SDG’s and customs of their respective countries. During 4 days in Geneva, several kids from Japan, approx. 15 kids based in Switzerland and another 15 kids from European countries will collaborate on the customs of their respective countries and the 17 SDGs.
Official language is English. For inquiries and support in Switzerland – we speak French, German, Italian, English.
Think of this as a junior SDGs bootcamp with trainers from Japan, Switzerland and other countries and cultural exchange.
Participants will learn more about the role of UN in each country and internationally, skills to act as ambassadors, as well as more about the sustainable development and project skills.
After the working sessions pupils will have to present their own projects. Each participant will receive a participation certificate at the end. There are lots of projects and interesting developments on the UN level internationally, and we need everyone to engage.
We need the youth to help with creativity, thinking out of the box, the energy to help achieve the changes all together.JCI internationally will support you further on and we will welcome the Young Ambassadors and the projects to be presented at the JCI Switzerland and JCI Japan national events.
For example, the Japanese Youth Ambassadors did present the UNYAP program at the General Assembly at the JCI World Youth Congress in Goa (November 2018). This was be a great opportunity to introduce themselves as the global Ambassador of the Youth at the United Nations.
We welcome all the kids between 12 and 17 years, regardless of their nationality. It is important to be able to speak English well enough for exchange on the projects and have basic knowledge about UN Sustainable Development Goals. Pupils must be prepared to work on the projects also in the evenings under the guidance of adults with experience in supervising children from Swiss, European and Japanese delegations.
Most importantly, you become Young Ambassadors of the UN agenda and should be prepared to spread the word, for example, in your schools, your local city events, keep being involved and present projects internationally and be prepared to interact with public.
This program may be subject to modifications, depending on the confirmation of our partners.
